The FIFA Statutes and the regulations ensuring their proper application represent the constitution of the governing body of international football. They provide a legal basis for the football world, which prevails for the innumerable rules applied to competitions and other fields, such as transfers and doping.
Changes to the Statutes are the exclusive responsibility of the FIFA Congress. They are endorsed provided that 75% of the federations present and voting approve them.
The Statutes have undergone several revisions in the history of FIFA, providing a modern and comprehensive legal framework for its increasingly important activities.
These Statutes were adopted at the FIFA Extraordinary Congress on 26 February 2016 in Zurich and entered into force on 27 April 2016.
